Haze Season 2026: Air Protection Guide
Malaysia's haze season typically runs June to October. Here is how to prepare your home — which appliances to have running, what settings to use, and the air purifier that matches your room size.

Malaysia's haze season typically runs from June to October, and air quality can deteriorate within hours. This guide gives you a complete indoor air protection checklist — from choosing the right air purifier for your room size to maintaining your aircond filter and monitoring API readings in real time.
When haze season hits Malaysia
Haze typically arrives between June and October, caused by agricultural burning in Indonesia and sometimes local fires. When the Air Pollution Index (API) crosses 100 (unhealthy), outdoor air becomes unsafe for prolonged exposure — especially for children, the elderly and anyone with asthma or respiratory conditions.
The practical response: close your windows, run the aircond with a clean filter, and turn on an air purifier. This guide covers what you need and how to set it up.
Your indoor air protection checklist
1. An air purifier with H13 HEPA filter. This is the most important item on the list. H13 HEPA captures 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns — including the fine PM2.5 particulates that make haze dangerous. Every LG PuriCare air purifier uses H13 HEPA as a minimum.
2. Correctly sized for your room. An air purifier rated for 30 m² will not protect a 60 m² living area during heavy haze. Match the coverage rating to your room size.
| Room size | Recommended model | Coverage | From |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bedroom (up to 23 m²) | AeroFurniture | 23 m² | RM60/mo |
| Living room (up to 61 m²) | 360° HIT | 61 m² | RM50/mo |
| Living room (advanced) | AeroBooster | 58 m² | RM65/mo |
| Large open plan (up to 104 m²) | Alpha Pet Double | 104 m² | RM105/mo |
3. A clean aircond filter. Your aircond recirculates indoor air. If the filter is dirty, it pushes dust and trapped haze particles back into the room. Clean or replace the filter before haze season starts. On LG Subscribe aircond plans, annual servicing is included.
4. Sealed windows and doors. Close all openings that allow outdoor air in. Use draught strips on doors and windows if you notice gaps. The goal is to keep outdoor particulates out while the purifier cleans the indoor air.
5. Monitor API readings. Check the Department of Environment's APIMS website or use apps like IQAir to monitor real-time air quality. When API drops below 100, you can ventilate briefly to refresh indoor air before sealing up again.
How to run your air purifier during haze
Run it continuously, not just when you feel the air is bad. Fine PM2.5 particles are invisible — by the time you notice haze indoors, the air quality has already deteriorated significantly.
Set the purifier to auto mode if available. LG PuriCare models with Smart Sensors automatically increase fan speed when they detect higher particulate levels and slow down when the air clears.
Place the purifier in the room where your family spends the most time during the day (living room) and move it to the bedroom at night. If your budget allows, have one for each space.
When to start preparing
Do not wait for the first haze day. API can spike from healthy to unhealthy within 24 hours. The time to prepare is now — before stock runs low and delivery queues lengthen.
