LG vs Daikin Aircond Malaysia: Inverter, Warranty and Bill Compared

LG and Daikin lead the Malaysian aircond market. Both make excellent inverter units, but the engineering and warranty positioning diverge. We compare compressor design, real TNB cost, noise levels, after-sales and which brand is the right pick for which Malaysian buyer.

LG vs Daikin Aircond Malaysia: Inverter, Warranty and Bill Compared

LG and Daikin sit at the top of the Malaysian aircond market. Both have decades of local sales, both run inverter compressors, both offer 10-year compressor warranties on premium lines. Most buyers cross-shop them and end up paralysed because the marketing reads almost identically.

This comparison strips out the marketing and compares them on what actually matters over a 10-year ownership horizon.

Compressor design

This is the engineering differentiator and most reviews skip it.

LG DUAL Inverter uses a twin rotary compressor — two compression chambers operating in alternating cycles. The design reduces vibration, runs quieter, and maintains capacity output more linearly across the operating range. LG offers a 10-year compressor warranty across the DUAL Inverter range.

Daikin Smart Inverter uses a single swing compressor — Daikin's signature compression mechanism that has been refined over multiple generations. Highly reliable, slightly different efficiency curve at part-load. Daikin also offers a 10-year compressor warranty on premium inverter models (5 years on some lower-tier units — read the warranty card carefully before purchase).

Both designs are excellent. The practical difference:

  • LG's twin rotary tends to be quieter at low part-load (50% capacity, common when maintaining temperature in a cool room)
  • Daikin's swing compressor tends to be slightly more efficient at extreme high-load (start-up from a hot room)
  • For typical Malaysian usage — long sessions maintaining temperature — both perform within 5% of each other.

    TNB running cost

Comparing equivalent inverter 1.5HP units in a 150 sq ft bedroom, 8 hours daily use:

Brand & ModelAvg power drawMonthly TNB cost
    LG DUAL Inverter 1.5HP (S3Q12)~525WRM58–75
    Daikin Smart Inverter 1.5HP (FTKQ-V)~530WRM58–75

Difference is within margin of error. Both brands' premium inverter units carry 5-star MEPS energy efficiency rating in Malaysia. Running cost is not the deciding factor.

    Noise

Both brands publish indoor unit sound levels in the 18–25 dB range at minimum fan speed.

In real-world testing at the user position (3 metres from the indoor unit, ambient room noise present):

  • LG DUAL Inverter at low fan: 20–22 dB
  • Daikin Smart Inverter at low fan: 22–24 dB
  • LG's quieter operation comes from the twin rotary compressor and a redesigned fan blade. The difference is most noticeable at night when the unit is running at low speed to maintain temperature.

    ARTCOOL design line

LG's ARTCOOL range offers a mirrored-glass front panel, which functions as a mirror or reflective accent when the aircond is off. The standard DUAL Inverter is the plain white box.

Daikin's premium SkyAir and Urusara lines have more conservative aesthetic — typically rectangular white with subtle styling.

For Malaysian homeowners who want the indoor unit to be visible without compromising room aesthetics, ARTCOOL is the differentiator. For a unit that sits high on a wall and disappears into the ceiling line, either brand looks fine.

    Plasmaster ionisation vs Streamer

Both brands include air-quality features beyond just cooling.

LG Plasmaster ionises the air using high-voltage plasma to neutralise bacteria and allergens. Active during cooling operation. The feature is useful but not a substitute for a dedicated air purifier.

Daikin Streamer uses streamer discharge technology to decompose allergens, mould and odours on the filter. More effective at filter-level cleaning than Plasmaster's air-stream ionisation.

For households with allergy sensitivity, Daikin Streamer is technically the better air-quality system on the aircond itself. But neither replaces a real air purifier — both should be considered features, not solutions.

    Service network

Both brands have nationwide authorised dealer and service networks in Malaysia.

LG service is centralised through fewer service centres in major cities, with strong KL/Penang coverage. Smaller cities work through authorised partners. Out-of-warranty repair on compressor in year 11+ is a meaningful expense if the warranty has lapsed.

Daikin service has more distributed dealer presence, including East Malaysia. Daikin has been in Malaysia longer and the dealer training depth is broader. For non-major-city residents, Daikin service access is often slightly easier.

After-sales for landed homes vs condos

For condo installations, both brands install equivalently. Pipe runs are short, condensate routing is standard.

For landed double-storey installations, where the outdoor compressor is on the ground floor and indoor units span both floors, Daikin's broader dealer presence often translates to better installation quality. Wrong refrigerant charging on long pipe runs is a common cause of premature compressor failure.

    Pricing pattern

    Both brands tier similarly:

  • **Standard 1.0HP inverter:** RM1,600–2,200
  • **Standard 1.5HP inverter:** RM2,000–2,800
  • **Premium 1.5HP inverter (ARTCOOL or top-tier Daikin):** RM2,800–4,000
  • **2.5HP premium inverter:** RM4,000–6,000
  • Promotional pricing varies. Daikin tends to hold list price more firmly; LG tends to run more aggressive seasonal promotions.

    Subscription advantage

LG Subscribe bundles aircond installation, scheduled servicing every 3 months, refrigerant top-up if needed, and full replacement during the term. No upfront cost. Daikin does not currently offer an equivalent subscription model.

For Malaysian buyers who would otherwise pay RM2,500 upfront plus RM150 per service every 3 months (RM600/year), the subscription is typically cheaper over a 5-year horizon and removes the risk of an out-of-warranty compressor failure in years 7–10.

    Which one to pick

  • **Quietest night operation, ARTCOOL design, lowest-risk total cost via subscription:** LG.
  • **Best allergy-grade filtration, broadest after-sales access (especially outside major cities), strongest dealer-level installation training:** Daikin.
  • **Lowest cash-out today on a standard inverter:** depends on promotion — both brands undercut each other depending on season.
  • For most Malaysian condo buyers in major cities who plan to keep the unit for 7+ years, LG Subscribe is the lowest-risk option. For landed homeowners outside major cities with multiple-unit installations, Daikin's dealer depth often wins on installation quality and long-term service access.

The brands are 90% equivalent in performance. The 10% that decides is the after-sales access pattern in your specific area, plus your appetite for upfront cash vs monthly subscription.
