LG WashTower Laundry Day Workflow: Where the Time Actually Goes

The LG WashTower spec sheet says 59-minute TurboWash. The marketing video shows a 2-minute load. Reality sits in between. Here is the actual laundry day workflow in a Malaysian condo — wash time, dry time, and where the minutes really go.

LG WashTower Laundry Day Workflow: Where the Time Actually Goes

LG WashTower marketing shows a 2-minute load and the spec sheet promises a 59-minute TurboWash cycle. Both are technically true. Both miss what laundry day actually looks like in a Malaysian condo with daily kid clothes, weekly bedsheets, and the occasional weekend deep-clean.

This is the honest workflow from a year of daily use — the times that matter and the workflow that works.

The actual cycle times (Malaysian use case)

The "59-minute TurboWash" is the fastest cycle for a normal lightly-soiled mixed cotton/synthetic load. In real use:

Cycle typeTimeUse case
TurboWash (light soil)59 minDaily kids' clothes, work shirts
Cotton Standard75–90 minWeekly mixed load, towels
Allergen Care / Sanitary110–130 minPet bedding, school uniforms, anyone unwell
Mixed (delicates)65–80 minWool, silk, fine-knit kebaya
Quick Wash 3030 minRefresh single garments, low soil

Most Malaysian households end up running Cotton Standard most days, not TurboWash. The 59-minute claim is real but applies to specific load types.

The dryer side

The WashTower's upper drum is a heat-pump dryer — gentler on fabric and more energy-efficient than condenser dryers, but slower.

Dryer cycleTimeResult
Sensor Dry (Cupboard Dry)110–140 minFully dry, ready to fold
Sensor Dry (Iron Dry)90–110 minSlightly damp, ready to iron
Heavy Duty (towels, jeans)130–160 minThoroughly dry
Delicate70–90 minLow-heat protective

For a typical mixed family load: about 2 hours dryer time per load on Sensor Dry.

Where the real time goes

Each load cycle, broken down:

1. Loading — 2 minutes (just stuff it in)

2. Wash cycle — 75 minutes (Cotton Standard)

3. Transfer wet load up to dryer drum — 3 minutes

4. Dryer cycle — 120 minutes (Sensor Dry)

5. Unloading and folding — 8–15 minutes depending on load size

Total: 3.5–4 hours from "start" to "fully folded".

Active human time: 13–20 minutes total per load. The rest is the machine working unattended.

For a family doing 5–6 loads a week, total active laundry time is roughly 1.5–2 hours weekly. Compare to manual washing and air-drying: 4–6 hours weekly.

The "two-load-day" technique

Most families fall into the trap of running one load per day, sequentially. With a WashTower, the trick is to start the dryer cycle on load 1 the moment load 2 finishes washing — overlap the two cycles, get two loads done in 4 hours total instead of 7.

Concrete sequence:

  • **08:00** Start load 1 wash (Cotton Standard, 75 min)
  • **09:15** Wash 1 complete. Transfer to dryer. Start dryer 1 (120 min). Start load 2 wash (75 min).
  • **10:30** Wash 2 complete. Wait for dryer 1 to finish.
  • **11:15** Dryer 1 complete. Unload. Transfer wash 2 to dryer. Start dryer 2 (120 min).
  • **13:15** Dryer 2 complete. Unload.
  • Total: 5 hours, 2 loads done. Single-load sequential would take 7 hours for the same.

    AI Direct Drive in practice

The marketing claim: AI detects fabric, weight and soil, then optimises cycle parameters. In practice:

  • **Fabric detection works.** Drop in a mixed load, the machine picks the right spin speed and water level. Manual override is rarely needed.
  • **Weight detection works.** Half-loads get less water and shorter cycles, saving water and electricity.
  • **Soil-level detection is less reliable.** For heavily soiled clothes (paint, mud, blood), select the heavier cycle manually. Auto-mode tends to under-clean for stains.
  • For 80% of loads, AI mode handles it. For visibly stained or heavily soiled items, override to the correct preset.

TNB and Air Selangor cost per load

Under TNB 2026 at 44.43 sen/kWh and Air Selangor domestic rates:

    CycleEnergyWaterTNB costWater cost
    Cotton Standard wash0.7 kWh60 LRM0.31~RM0.05
    Sensor Dry1.4 kWh0 LRM0.62RM0
    Combined wash + dry2.1 kWh60 LRM0.93 per loadRM0.05 per load

For a family doing 5–6 loads weekly, total monthly running cost is RM20–25 in electricity, RM1–2 in water. Operating cost is low.

    What the WashTower does well

  • **Heat-pump dryer treats fabric gently.** After a year, cotton T-shirts have noticeably less wear than tumble-dryer-treated equivalents.
  • **Centre Control Panel** at chest height eliminates bending. Small ergonomic detail that adds up over a year.
  • **AI Direct Drive motor is genuinely quieter.** Late-night washing is feasible in a condo without disturbing neighbours.
  • **Single unit footprint** fits the standard washer cavity. No renovation, no major plumbing.
  • What it does not do well

  • **Dryer cycle time is long.** 2 hours per load is slower than a vented condenser dryer. The trade-off is fabric gentleness and lower electricity cost.
  • **Capacity at the dryer side is smaller than the washer.** 16 kg washer + 10 kg dryer means a full wash sometimes needs to dry in two batches.
  • **Heat-pump dryers do not work well on wool or delicate fine knits.** For wool kebaya and fine-knit cardigans, air-drying still wins.
  • **Lint filter on the dryer needs cleaning every 1–2 loads.** Easy but constant.
  • Maintenance schedule

For LG Subscribe customers, scheduled servicing is bundled. For outright owners:

  • **Drain filter on washer side:** monthly, clean accumulated lint
  • **Lint filter on dryer side:** every 1–2 loads
  • **Drum cleaning cycle:** monthly (the unit has a self-clean cycle)
  • **Heat exchanger on dryer side:** annually, requires service technician
  • The honest verdict

The WashTower changes laundry from a daily chore into a background process. Set up the workflow once, and it earns 2–3 hours of your weekly time back forever. The dryer is slower than competitor condenser dryers, but the energy and fabric-care trade-offs are worth it for daily use.

For families with kids, daily uniforms, occasional pet bedding and weekend deep cleans — the WashTower is the single best laundry decision available in the Malaysian market right now. The space-saving alone justifies the upgrade.
