OLED vs QLED vs LED TV Guide Malaysia 2026

OLED, QLED, QNED, NanoCell, LED — TV marketing is full of acronyms. Here is what each technology actually means, how they compare in picture quality, and which one makes sense for your budget.

OLED vs QLED vs LED TV Guide Malaysia 2026

Confused by OLED, QLED, QNED and NanoCell? This guide explains each TV display technology in plain language and compares them side by side on picture quality, brightness, viewing angles and price. By the end, you will know exactly which panel type suits your Malaysian living room and budget.

The three technologies explained simply

LED / NanoCell. A standard LCD panel with an LED backlight. NanoCell adds nanoparticle colour filters for better accuracy. This is the most affordable technology and delivers good 4K picture quality in well-lit rooms. LG's NANO83 75" starts at RM110/month.

QNED / QLED. Adds quantum dots and MiniLED backlighting to the LED/NanoCell base. Quantum dots produce more vivid colours, and MiniLED enables finer backlight control for brighter highlights and darker shadows. LG calls their version QNED. The QNED87 75" starts at RM200/month.

OLED. Each pixel produces its own light and can turn off individually. This means perfect blacks (the pixel is literally off), infinite contrast ratio, and wide viewing angles with no colour shift. The trade-off is higher cost. LG's OLED B5 77" starts at RM560/month.

Which one should you pick?

Choose LED / NanoCell if your living room has large windows, you watch mostly during the day, and you want the biggest screen for the lowest monthly cost. The NANO83 at RM110/month delivers solid 4K performance that most viewers will be happy with.

Choose QNED if you watch a mix of sports, movies and streaming, you game occasionally, and you want a visible upgrade from basic LED without the OLED premium. The QNED87's 120Hz panel and quantum dot colours make a real difference at RM200/month.

Choose OLED if picture quality is your top priority, you watch movies in a dimmed room, you are a serious gamer who needs low input lag, or you simply want the best panel technology available. The OLED B5 at RM560/month is a commitment, but the viewing experience is in a different league.

A note on "QLED"

Samsung uses the term QLED for their quantum dot TVs. LG uses QNED for a similar (but not identical) technology. Both use quantum dots over an LCD panel. True OLED — where each pixel self-lights — is a fundamentally different technology. Do not confuse QLED and OLED; they are not the same.
